Office Objects developed a database solution for Northern Freight Services(NFS). NFS is a family run company. It provides a quality distribution and warehousing service from their base in North East England. Detailed consultation with our managerial, office and warehousing staff was required for the database development.
Office Objects reviewed our existing warehousing, stock, orders and invoicing systems. Together we designed a database solution to simplify and streamline our existing processes for both goods received and deliveries.
Benefits of the database:
Office Objects provided us with a database development which replaced many of our spreadsheets. The spreadsheets we previously used were more labour intensive. They also required double entry of some customer, product and warehouse information. The database solution now enforces our requirement for one product only to a location. As a result this has also stopped duplications when entering data. Now, each Batch of products received are recorded in a consistent way. The products that belong to each Batch and the Containers in which they are delivered are recorded by the Database. This ensures traceability. Another advantage of the database is that Stock taking is now simplified. Stock taking is now an integral part of the new system.
Greater efficiency:
The database system captures Customer reference information. It also captures orders, warehouse location, pallet calculation and stock data to provide an integrated solution. This means the process is more efficient and user friendly to operate. It also provides us with an accurate and simple to use Reporting facility. So we can now retrieve details of goods received and deliveries by Date, Batch, Container and Product codes search
The database development has allowed us to tailor our staffing requirements to the more streamlined process. This enables us to hold all the key business information in one central easily accessible location.

Based in Peterlee Northern Freight offer their customers 180,000 square foot of internal warehouse space. It also provides 9 acres of external storage space. The site is covered by 24hr security and has full internal / external CCTV.
In terms of distribution, haulage and fleet resources Northern Freight have a mixed fleet of some 48 vehicles. These range from small vans to 44 ton articulated units & double deck trailers. All vehicles are fitted with tracking systems.
